A British lass playing “mad scientist” came up with Sugru back in 2003. It’s a “play-doh” for adults.
I’m not a chemist, but I believe it’s a silicone mixed with an epoxy-like material that allows the material to harden into a durable, but flexible rubber-like patch.
I’ve used it on my helmet (photos to come) to keep the wires of my Bluetooth intercom in order, but I haven’t really taken advantage of the heat resistant properties (they claim it can take 170 degrees Fahrenheit).
That claim to fame goes to Sugru user, Charlie, who sent in his story of a 1000 mile trip on a Royal Enfield, saved by a bit of Sugru in his pack.
From Sugru‘s Hack of the Month Blog.
“The chain oiler of my aging 500cc Royal Enfield motorcycle lost its nozzle on a 1000 mile trip. Luckily, I had a spare breather tube on the carburettor and some sugru in my minimalist toolkit. Job done – Harry the Enfield rides again!”

I’m a paying customer of Sugru – so this is a totally free plug, but I definitely think a little package of Sugru in your tool kit is a brilliant idea.
