The freak storm on Friday night was a nightmare for many, but few experienced it like Carolina Alcalde. An avid motorcyclist and member of Latin American Motorcycle Association Washington DC, Alcalde was riding her Suzuki home on 15th Street NW when a crashing tree struck her.
From the DCist.com
“According to close friend Victoria Page Fulkerson, Alcalde was coming home from Virginia around the time that the violent storm started sweeping across the city. As she climbed 15th Street alongside Meridian Hill Park, a pine tree came crashing down, striking her back.”
After much medical work at GW Hospital, she is recovering from a severed spinal cord, five broken ribs, a fractured shoulder blade and trauma to her lungs. She’s paralyzed from the mid-section down and sure to be facing some huge medical bills.
A donation page has been set up on WePay.com to help Alcade and her family defray these huge costs. Please give generously!
Also, come by The Pug (1234 H St NE) on Thursday, July 12. They’ll be throwing a fundraiser for Carolina Alcalde to help with some of the coming medical bills.
